LACAZE (Louis)
Printers and Booksellers in Béarn (1552-1883). Pau, Ribaut, 1884.
Large square in-8: 2f., 322pp., 1f. ; 11 plates hors texte in fine with their explanatory leaves opposite. Printed on Hollande.
½ plum morocco with corners signed THIERRY succ. de Petit-Simier, gilt title on spine, gilt head. A fine copy.
A small number of copies of the Bulletin de la S.S.L.A. de Pau, 2nd series, volume 13. A magnificent and excellent work, with first-rate documentation, top-of-the-range printing on Hollande laid paper that smells of smoked wood, and a hint of rarity to liven things up. A must-have for the bibliophile. The text of the review will be recomposed for the Ribaut edition, but strictly identical to the book version. Curiously, a few errors have been corrected, but most, notably the major additions, remain in the errata. The book version is enlarged by 2 plates (10 and 11) and presentation leaflets. The author's short address to his colleagues (bulletin de la S.S.L.A.), on the other hand, has not been preserved by Ribaut (Batcave 572)(Soulice 285)(Labarère 825).
