Comminges - Lot 225
Comminges LASSUS (Marie Marc de) baron Les Guerres du Dix-Huitième Siècle sur les Frontières du Comminges, du Couserans et des Quatre-Vallées. Third edition revised, enlarged and accompanied by a map for the intelligence of military operations. Saint-Gaudens, Abadie, 1895. In-8: 2f., IV, 318pp. Folding map in fine. Struck with a handwritten letter in black ink. ½ green chagrin, gilt title, author and finial on lightened spine, publisher's beige cover retained. Rare. The publisher states that these "Guerres..." were "published for the first time in 1893 and 1894 in the Revue des Études du Comminges", then further on points to an "in-8 volume" published in August 1894. According to De Gorsse, the account of the first war (1701-1715) appeared in Revue du Comminges tome VIII, 1892, and the second war (1719-1720) in the same journal, tome IX, 1893. The original "book" is indeed from 1894, printed in 50 copies, the second one seems not to exist, this one is much enlarged. There is a typographical error on the date in the Bibliographie Pyrénéiste (Labarère 871). Oraison funèbre de messire Marc-François de Lassus, seigneur de Camon. A Montréjeau, Diocèse de Comminges, August 6, 1780. Toulouse, Viguier, 1862. In-8, 99pp. Basane fauve marbled pastiche signed POUGET, ornate ribbed spine, black title-piece, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt roulettes on the edges and inside, gilt edges. A good copy.
