A monumental work on the Basque country, as only our university agrégés know how to do. LEFÈBVRE, a geographer born in the North of France in 1889, taught mainly in Poitiers, but also taught for a time at the end of the First World War at the Lycée de Pau. Involved in the Resistance and deported, he died violently on December 3, 1943, decapitated with an axe in a German prison (Bilbao V, 24).
CAVAILLÈS (Henri): La Vie Pastorale et Agricole dans les Pyrénées des Gaves, de l'Adour et des Nestes. Étude de Géographie Humaine. Paris, Colin, 1931.
In-8 paperback (publisher's green cover): 3f., 414pp., 1f. ; 13 plates of out-of-text photos, a few illustrations and in-text maps.
Important dissertation for the Doctor of Letters degree, followed the same year by a complementary study entitled "La Transhumance Pyrénéenne et la Circulation des Troupeaux dans les Plaines de Gascogne". The latter is a complementary thesis to the former. A well-researched and well-documented work of interest beyond agriculture.
