MASSIE (Jean-François) colonel - Lot 249
MASSIE (Jean-François) colonel Cartography of the Pyrenees. Study. Documentation illustrated with Maps and Photographs from the Pyrenees Cartography Exhibition organized by Captain MASSIE from December 15 to 30, 1933 at the headquarters of the Club Alpin Français and the Groupe Skieur de Tarbes, 3, cours Gambetta, Tarbes. Tarbes, Édité par la Section des Hautes Pyrénées du Club Alpin Français, (Lesbordes), 1934. In-8: 128pp; illustrations in text, 5 plates out of text including 2 fold-outs (including the one by junker, the one on p. 80 is in 2 parts). One of 300 numbered "offprint" copies of the quarterly bulletin of the Hautes-Pyrénées Section of the C.A.F. (no. 261). Stuffed with 2 postcards addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Massie. ½ brown chagrin with corners, title and gilt fleuron on lightened spine, publisher's green cover retained. A reference work, the first catalog of its kind by a specialist. Antique maps as well as modern publications: Meillon, Schrader, Saint-Saud, Wallon, Packe, etc. 500 copies were printed (200 as the bulletin itself, unnumbered, and 300 as numbered "offprints"); only the cover differs. Complete with Junker's map, which is absent from more than half the copies. This map is of no particular interest compared to the others, and its absence can in no way be attributed to petty theft. It may have been printed later or in insufficient numbers.
