Paris, Huart & Moreau ; David ; Durand ; Pissot, 1750.
Small in-8: 4f., 205pp., (3). Handwritten note on title page: "Offered to M. le Dr Raillard in memory of my stay at Les Baignots" (1879).
Contemporary fawn roots calf, ornate ribbed spine, red title-piece, torn headpieces, split jaws, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt fillet on the edges, rubbing and wear from use, interior roulette, gilt edges.
From the same source: Observations sur les eaux de Barège, de Cauterets, de Bagnères, de Dax et de Bordeaux. Bordeaux, Veuve Lacour & Faye, sd. [1792]. In-8, 31pp. Modern Bradel-style boards, black spine label.
Interesting work by the son of the philosopher of La Brède. It was out of respect for his father that he refrained from using the name Montesquieu. He himself published various memoirs on electricity (1746), the navy (1756), oak, woods, vines etc. (1785). The other works are devoted to the mineral waters of the Pyrenees and Aquitaine.
Provenance: Printed bookplate of Dupleix de Cardignan (coats of arms).
