SOCIÉTÉ RAMOND - Lot 359
SOCIÉTÉ RAMOND
Pyrenean Explorations. Ascents of High Peaks and Regions of Difficult Access, Meteorological Observations, Scientific and Archaeological Research. Bulletin Trimestriel de la Société Ramond. Bagnères de Bigorre, J. Cazenave, then Paris, Savy, 1866-1920.
55 years in in-8 volumes: approx. 170pp. per year, continuous pagination, illustrations. We propose: from 1866 (1st year) to 1920 (the collation of the plates, very complex, has not been carried out).
In 23 volumes ½ long-grained red morocco, title and years gilt on spine. A very fine copy. The binder has cleverly oversized the boards of the first 4 years (smaller in format) in order to have an equal format for the collection.
The Bulletin was first published in 1866, in bi-annual and then annual installments. Exceptional from the outset, thanks to its talented contributors: PACKE, RUSSELL, the FROSSARDs, but also BAYSSELANCE, LEQUEUTRE, BLADE, BOUILLE, WALLON, GOURDON, SAINT-SAUD. Around 1900, the magazine became almost exclusively scientific and no longer held the same interest. After 1940, the magazine became ghostly, sometimes publishing only one issue for 9 years. Nevertheless, it was the first of our Pyrenean magazines (one could even say the first mountain magazine), and the first thirty years were of immense interest. Today, men and women of good will continue to keep this venerable institution alive, and the publication of the "Table Générale des Matières 1866-1982" in 1986 was most welcome (Colonel Grasset Bull. de la Soc. Ramond année 41-42 p. 95 à 99).
