Edition of 35 copies - Lot 377
Edition of 35 copies
TONNELLÉ (Louis Nicolas Alfred)
Three Months in the Pyrenees and Midi in 1858. Travel journal by Alfred TONNELLE. Sl. (Lourdes, Gazagne), 1925.
In-12: 2f., 523pp. Colophon: "Imprimé par les soins de René Gazagne pour M. l'abbé GAURIER. "(Presumed edition of 35 copies). Autograph letter from the author "Offered to the abbé Gaurier...", then "Offered to Docteur Sarramon in memory of my uncle...". (signed abbé Gaurier).
½ marbled fawn basane, spine ribbed, black title and author pieces, gilt iron and pallets.
A new note for bibliophiles: the indication of the colophon varies from copy to copy. After "Imprimé par les soins de René Gazagne", it may read "pour lui-même", or "exemplaire d'épreuve", or "pour M." with the name of the dedicatee. After the mythical original edition of 1858 came Beraldi's extremely rare 1901 edition. Gazagne's third edition, in 1925, was printed in 5 copies in large paper reprinted in-8 and 35 in in-12 format (edition proposed here). It was published over a period of 3 years, the notebooks being sent to friends as they appeared. Along with Senmartin and a few others, René Gazagne formed a splinter group of the G.D.J. called the "Petit Lourdes". Finally, in 1977, a final edition of impeccable quality was published by the Amis du Livre Pyrénéen, with a print run of 325 copies (Labarère 1591).
