Atla alone, 2 parts in one volume in folio: 22 maps and topographical or architectural surveys based on surveys by DOUDART de LAGRÉE, Francis GARNIER and Louis DELAPORTE - XIIpp. and 28/40 plates (24 mounted on tabs and 4 loose in fine) sometimes several subjects, some double-page, of views of Khmer monuments (Angkor), boats, faces of Indo-Chinese peoples, market or festival scenes based on drawings by Louis DELAPORTE. Lithographs on tinted or colored backgrounds. Set in good condition, mounted on tabs. ½ brown filleted chagrin with gilt title on spine, spotting and rubbing. Famous voyage of exploration of the Mekong basin in Cochinchina, Cambodia, Laos, Tonkin and the southern provinces of China. For many years now, no other voyage in Asia has covered such a vast expanse of completely new country. This scientific and commercial mission was part of Francis Garnier's plan to make Saigon the main gateway to southern China, using the Mekong as a penetration route. A richly documented illustration. Unfortunately incomplete by a dozen plates in the second part (Biblioteca Indosinica 1012-1013).
