Famous voyage of exploration of the Mekong basin in Cochinchina, Cambodia, Laos, Tonkin and the southern provinces of China. For many years now, no other voyage in Asia has covered such a vast expanse of completely new country. This scientific and commercial mission was part of Francis Garnier's plan to make Saigon the main gateway to southern China, using the Mekong as a penetration route. A richly documented illustration.
