Rochon (1741-1817) was an astronomer and naval physicist. He undertook the voyage described from 1768 to 1770.
Provenance: Handwritten note on title page "Collated complete on July 18, 1826. J. J. de BURE L'aîné".
Jean-Jacques de Bure (1765-1853), bibliophile, was bookseller to the Bibliothèque impériale, and compiled library catalogs.
