Contemporary stiff vellum over boards, handwritten title on spine. Philippe de Commines composed his memoirs between 1489 and 1498, covering the confrontation between the Duke of Burgundy and Louis XI, as well as the first Italian expedition in which he participated. In addition to chronicling events, Commines justifies his commitments and develops his thoughts on political action (Tchémerzine II, 470).
