Prince Napoleon and Princess Clotilde Library ECHO of SYRIA The Echo of Syria. To their Imperial Highnesses Prince Napoleon and Princess Clotilde. Translation. Signed Khalil-El-Khouri, editor-owner of the Arabic newspaper in Beirut. In-8: 4 pages of the French translation and 3 pages in Arabic. Minor scattered spotting. Eggplant chagrin, gilt garland framing the boards with gilt irons in spandrels, pink silk endpapers. "L'Echo de la Syrie. A son Altesse Impériale La Princesse Clotilde" gilt on upper board; Arabic translation on lower board. In praise of Prince Napoléon (Napoléon Jérôme Bonaparte or Prince Jérôme Napoléon, 1822-1891) and Princess Clotilde (Clotilde de Savoie, his wife in 1859). Khalil-El-Khouri was the editor-owner of the Arab newspaper in Beirut, "Hadikat al-Akbbar", the first Lebanese newspaper, published in 1858 under the Ottoman Empire, & the first Arabic-language newspaper published by an Arab in an Arab country. Provenance: Red wet stamp with initial numeral N (eagle's head at head) at foot of first page.
