[ARBANÈRE (Étienne Gabriel)] - VERNEUR (Jacques Thomas)] - Lot 8
[ARBANÈRE (Étienne Gabriel)] - VERNEUR (Jacques Thomas)]
Anonymous copy of Arbanère's work entitled: Journal des voyages, découvertes et navigations modernes ou archives générales du XIXe siècle - Juillet 1828 et août 1848). Table of the French Pyrenees. (Then following) Revue encyclopédique ou analyse raisonnée des productions les plus remarquables dans la littérature, les sciences et les arts (August 1828). Tableau des Pyrénées.
Possibly a series of articles published in Jacques Thomas Verneur's book about Arbanère's work. To be worked on.
In folio. 3 articles for a total of 32 pages, on two different papers, by the same hand, handwriting in black ink, clearly legible, approx. 40 lines per page.
Scattered (bound with handwritten parts) with issues of "Journal du Lot et Garonne" (1828) and "La Réunion" (1828). Added later in fine, a few maps of parts of the Pyrenees taken from various works.
Verneur: Le Journal des voyages appeared in 134 issues published from November 1818 to December 1829. It includes many accounts of the Orient. It was absorbed by the Revue des deux mondes in 1829.
Collection of reports on modern travel (early 19th century). Volumes appeared periodically and were probably received by mail.
The contents are divided into five parts: Mémoires et notices, Extraits et analyses d'ouvrages, Evènements mémorables, Mélanges géographiques and Gazette géographique. The Gazette also includes an infinite number of articles of just a few lines, like a world news journal. Most articles should be treated with caution, as they are written for journalistic sensationalism.
Arbanère: Born in Hérault in 1784, Arbanère was mayor of Tonneins from 1827 to 1831. His other publications concern ancient history. He visited the Gavarnie area in 1806, and in 1820 he was at Mont-Perdu. He had a marked penchant for the Luchonnais region, to which he returned several times. He accompanied Chausenque to the Pyrénées-Orientales in 1823.
