In-8: XXX, 1f., 258pp, (3); illustrated with 43 color plates protected in serpents (plates numbered 1 to 42 and plate 4 bis) by Vincent MODZELEWSKI featuring a total of 63 species. Some spotting. Contemporary red morocco, smooth spine decorated with rocaille irons, gothic-style cold decoration and sextuple gilt fillet, fleurons in the spandrels, gilt fillet on the edges with roulette on the corners, fine inner gilt lace, gilt edges. A fine copy. First edition of one of the first guides to mushrooms. Written by two doctors from Toulouse. Particularly concerned with the mushrooms of today's Midi-Pyrénées and the Pyrenean foothills. This treatise covers the description of families, medical mycetology and public hygiene. Culinary preparations (mousseron croute, stuffed morels, champagne truffles) are also covered. Table of names in French, Latin and Patois (Nissen 1456).
