Paris, l'auteur ; Duminil-Lesueur, 1806. In folio, illustrated with 155 plates of coins from various countries of the world. ½ red chagrin with filleted corners in the second half of the 19th century, spine with ornate nerves, arms alternating with the figure of the Duc d'Orléans between caissons, wear rubbing, gilt edges. First edition of this important, lavishly illustrated monograph, largely devoted to 18th-century European coins, originally published for banks and exchange houses. This book was to become an immediate reference work. Fine provenance. Provenance: Gilded arms of the Orléans family, alternating with the cipher of the Duc d'Orléans Ferdinand Philippe Louis (1810-1842), eldest son of King Louis-Philippe I, who had a brilliant military career before his tragic death on July 13, 1842 in Neuilly-sur-Seine.
